The First Presbyterian Church of Cushing, Oklahoma was the result of the pioneering efforts of Rev. D.A. McLaury, who has descendents in the church today. He gathered together a congregation in the Lone Oak District, five miles south of Cushing. He was aided by the Rev. F.M. Bonebrake, a Quaker, who later became an ordained Presbyterian minister (he also has descendents in today's church). Working with them was R.L. Phelps, a Synodical Missionary, who assisted them in forming the core of today's church. |

| The first
church met in the "Opera House" over the First National Bank
building and plans were made to organize the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church of Cushing. In March 1904, the small congregation met for a
total of 44 charter members. Elders and deacons were ordained and
two years later the Cumberland Church united with the Presbyterian Church
USA and was renamed the First Presbyterian Church of Cushing. The "Opera House" was used as the meeting place until September, 1904, when a new church building was dedicated at the corner of Broadway and Noble, the present location of the Bank of Cushing. In 1918, the church began drawing up plans for a new church building at the present day location. On December 26th, 1920, directly after Sunday School, the entire congregation marched together to the new church building. |

Since then, the church
has had a few renovations. In 1951 classrooms were
constructed on the second floor of the sanctuary and in 1965 the
Educational Wing was added to the original building. Physically, the church has not changed since the addition of the Educational wing. The wing includes the "Ladies Parlor" and also house the Presbyterian Preschool and the Mother's Day Out program which was established in 1995. |
